Designer Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen’s suggestion for the new outfits for the Finnish aviation company Finnair won the uniform design competition for invited designers. The winning outfits will be seen on Finnair’s service staff for the first time in 2009.
"The strengths of Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen's designs are regarded especially to be their adaptability and compatibility with the planned new appearance of Finnair aircraft passenger cabins as well as with the wider success factors," says Jarkko Konttinen, Head of Finnair's global marketing communications.
Finnair invited several Finnish, well-known fashion designers to design new uniforms. The starting point for the design of Finnair's new service uniforms was that the new image should be in line with the factors behind the success of the Finnair brand, especially freshness and 'Finnishness', as well as in harmony with the planned new cabin appearance.
Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen is a fashion designer with a long journey in the Finnish fashion and clothing industry. She has been the head of a collection of her name, Ril’s, for more than ten years and stepped out only recently to concentrate on her other projects and jewellery design.
