According to Marimekko’s interim report, published today, Marimekko’s business grew as expected during the first quarter of the year 2008. Turnover of the company grew by 10 per cent compared to the same period in 2007.
Marimekko’s growth is currently almost completely coming from export due to the fact that growth in Finland consisted of single campaign deliveries.
Turnover of Marimekko’s clothing line grew by 1.7 per cent, but went clearly down in the Finnish market. Turnover of interior products grew by 11.6 per cent and bags 31.7 per cent from the same period the year before.
“We have started strategic working for developing Marimekko’s business this spring. By this we aim in growing the company and its profitability in a long run” says Mika Ihamuotila, CEO of Marimekko.
“Marimekko was strongly present in the international media due to co-operation with H & M Hennes & Mauritz AB, for example” he continues. ”We are aiming in using this publicity in expanding Marimekko internationally.”
